Wisdom is better than strength.
3rd. Hyperbole. This figure is in common use; as,
ൟ മാവിലുള്ള മാങ്ങാ ഒരു പൊതിക്കാത്ത തെങ്ങായെക്കാൾ വലിപ്പമുള്ളതും പഞ്ചസാരയെക്കാൾ മധുരമുള്ളതും ആകുന്നു.
The mangoes on this tree are larger than a cocoa-nut, before the husk is removed, and sweeter than sugar.
അവന്റെ കണ്ണ ചെമ്പരത്തി പൂവിനെക്കാൾ ചുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.
His eyes are redder than a shoe-flower.
4th. Irony. This figure is well known by the natives; as,
നീ അവന്റെ വിരുന്നിന പൊകുമൊ? അതിന്ന എന്തൊരു സംശയം അവൻ എന്നൊട ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള അന്യായം വിചാരിച്ചാൽ ഞാൻ പൊകാതെ ഇരിക്കുമൊ?
Will you go to his feast? What doubt is there about it. When you reflect upon the injury he hath done me; do you think I shall fail to go?
നീ ൟ മച്ചിപശുവിനെ ഇരുപത രൂപാ കൊടുത്ത വാങ്ങിച്ചത കൊണ്ട നിന്നെപ്പൊലെ ബുദ്ധിമാൻ ആരുമില്ല.
Because you paid 20 Rupees for this barren cow, there is no one so wise as you.
5th. Antithesis or Contrast, is much in use. Many examples have been given of it in the Syntax; as,
നന്മ വിചാരിക്കയും പ്രവൃത്തിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവന്ന വരുന്നത ഒക്കയും ഗുണമായിട്ട തീരും തിന്മ ആയാലൊ ദൊഷം തന്നെ.
Everything will turn out well to him, who thinks and acts well; but evil to him that thinks and acts evil.
6th. Climax or Amplification is used, but not to a great extent; thus,
മഹാ രാജാവ നാട്ടിൽനിന്ന തള്ളികളവാൻ നിശ്ചയിച്ചവനെ നാട്ടിൽ നിൎത്തുവാൻ ആൎക്ക അല്ലെങ്കിൽ എതിന്ന കഴിയും തന്റെ മക്കളുടെ കണ്ണുനീരുകൾക്കൊ തന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയുടെ അപെക്ഷകൾക്കൊ തന്റെ ചെങ്ങാതിമാരുടെ സഹായത്തിന്നൊ ദിവാനിജിയുടെ കൃപയ്ക്കൊ യാതൊന്നിന്ന എങ്കിലും കഴിയുമൊ?
Who, or what can keep in the country him whom the Rajah has resolved to banish: can the tears of his children, the supplications of his wife, the assistance of his friends, the compassion of the Dewan, can any thing?
