070 PASSIVE VERBS.

123. The passive verb, which is not in common use in this language, is formed by taking away the final ഉന്നു from the indicative present of active and neuter verbs, and adding പ്പെടുന്നു for the present, പ്പെട്ടു for the past, and പ്പെടും for the future; as,

All passive verbs are formed alike, and conjugated like the active voice.
All verbs whose present tense does not end in ക്കുന്നു make their passive like കാണപ്പെടുന്നു; but this form is similar to that of neuter verbs made with a noun and പ്പെടുന്നു; as, അവൻ സങ്കടപ്പെടു ന്നു, He grieves; അവൻ തല്ലപ്പെടുന്നു. He is beaten. As this is likely to confuse beginners, I here subjoin a list of the above kind of passive verbs that are in most common use.
