122. Causal verbs are formed; thus,
1st. Verbs whose present indicative ends in ന്നു are made Causal by inserting പ്പി before the ക്കു; as,
സ്നെഹിക്കുന്നു, to love. സ്നെഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, to make to love.
ചിരിക്കുന്നു, to laugh. ചിരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, to cause to laugh.
കെൾക്കുന്നു, to hear. കെൾപ്പിക്കുന്നു, to cause to hear.
ഉടുക്കുന്നു, to clothe oneself. ഉടുപ്പിക്കുന്നു, to clothe another.
അടിക്കുന്നു, to beat. അടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, to cause to beat.
Exceptions.
തൊല്ക്കുന്നു, to be defeated. തൊല്പിക്കുന്നു, to defeat.
ഇരിക്കുന്നു, to sit. ഇരുത്തുന്നു, to cause to sit.
നില്ക്കുന്നു, to stand. നിൎത്തുന്നു, to cause to stand.
നടക്കുന്നു, to walk. നടത്തിക്കുന്നു, to conduct. Transitive verbs, in the above examples, are considered as the causals of their corresponding Intransitives because many verbs have but two forms: where there are three, the rules for the formation of the causals, will show how they are made, so that no mistake can occur; thus in the example നടത്തുന്നു, to conduct; the third rule teaches that verbs ending in ത്തുന്നു, drop ഉന്നു and take ഇക്കുന്നു for the causal; as നടത്തിക്കുന്നു, to cause to conduct.
കടക്കുന്നു, to pass. കടത്തുന്നു, to cause to pass.
കിടക്കുന്നു, to lie down. കിടത്തുന്നു, to cause to lie down.
2nd. Verbs whose present indicative ends in കുന്നു, or ങ്ങുന്നു, change them into ക്കുന്നു; as,
ആകുന്നു, to be. ആക്കുന്നു, to make.
ഒഴുകുന്നു, to flow. ഒഴുക്കുന്നു, to cause to flow.
മുങ്ങുന്നു, to sink. മുക്കുന്നു, to make sink.
ഇറങ്ങുന്നു, to descend. ഇറക്കുന്നു, to bring down.
3rd. If the present indicative ends in യുന്നു, യ്യുന്നു, ത്തുന്നു, ല്ലുന്നു, or ന്നുന്നു; the ഉന്നു is dropped and ഇക്കുന്നു added; as,
പറയുന്നു, to say. പറയിക്കുന്നു, to cause to speak.
ചെയ്യുന്നു, to do. ചെയ്യിക്കുന്നു, to cause to do.
കത്തുന്നു, to burn. കത്തിക്കുന്നു, to make to burn.
കൊല്ലുന്നു, to kill കൊല്ലിക്കുന്നു, to cause to kill.
തുന്നുന്നു, to sew തുന്നിക്കുന്നു, to make to sew.
Exceptions.
തിന്നുന്നു, to eat. തീറ്റുന്നു, to feed.
നനയുന്നു, to be wet. നനയ്ക്കുന്നു, to make wet.
നിറയുന്നു, to be full. നിറയ്ക്കുന്നു, to fill.
അരയുന്നു, to be ground. അരെക്കുന്നു, to grind.
കായുന്നു, to boil. കാച്ചുന്നു, to make boil.
4th. If the termination ഉന്നു of the present indicative be preceded by റ, the റ is doubled. If by ര the letter is changed into (ൎ) and placed over ക്ക or ത്ത; as,
മാറുന്നു, to move. മാറ്റുന്നു, to remove.
കരെറുന്നു, to ascend. കരെറ്റുന്നു, to raise up.
ചെരുന്നു, to be joined. ചെൎക്കുന്നു, to put together.
ചൊരുന്നു, to leak. ചൊൎക്കുന്നു, to make to leak.
ഉണരുന്നു, to be awake. ഉണൎത്തുന്നു, to awaken.
പകരുന്നു, to pour. പകൎത്തുന്നു, to make to pour.
Exceptions.
തരുന്നു, to give. തരിയിക്കുന്നു, to cause to give.
പെറുന്നു, to bring forth. പെറിയിക്കുന്നു, to cause to bring forth.
വരുന്നു, to come. വരുത്തുന്നു, to cause to come.
5th. If the termination ഉന്നു be preceded by ട, that letter is doubled, or ഇക്കുന്നു added to it. If by ള, the ള is changed into ട്ട. If by ണ, ണ is changed into ട്ട, or ണിക്ക. If by ണ്ണ, these letters are changed into ട്ട, and the preceding vowel made long; as,

Exceptions.
All verbs, made with a noun and the particle പെടുന്നു, make their causals by inserting ത്തു. between ടു and ന്നു; as,
ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു, to fear. ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു, to cause to fear.
6th. If ഉന്നു be preceded by ഴ; ത്ത, is placed beneath it; as,
താഴുന്നു, to be low. താഴ്ത്തുന്നു, to bring down, to humble.
വീഴുന്നു, to fall. വീഴ്ത്തുന്നു, to make fall.
There are a few Anomalies; as,
അകലുന്നു, to be distant. അകറ്റുന്നു, to remove.
കാച്ചുന്നു, to boil. കാച്ചിക്കുന്നു, to cause to boil.
