114 VERBS OF INTENSITY.

229. These verbs may be used with principal verbs in any part of the sentence; thus,
1st. Examples of the use of കൊള്ളുന്നു with a principal verb.
അവൻ ഇനിയും എന്റെ ആളുകളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊള്ളുന്നു
എങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ എഴുതി ബൊധിപ്പിക്കും.
If he seize my people any more, I will complain against him, lit: will write and inform.
അവർ എന്റെ കണ്ടത്തിന്റെ വരമ്പ വെട്ടി മാറ്റികൊള്ളുന്നു.
They are cutting down and removing the bank of my paddy field.
ലങ്കയിൽ കടന്നുകൊൾവാൻ പണി.
It is difficult to pass over to Lenka.
ആയാൾ എന്റെ നിലം അപഹരിച്ച കൊണ്ടു എന്ന ഞാൻ ആവലാധി ബൊധിപ്പിച്ചാൽ കെൾക്കയില്ല.
If I complain (to the court) that that person seized my field, it will not be heard.
2nd. Of കളയുന്നു.
ആ പശു ദിവസവും ൟ പറമ്പിൽ കെറി വാഴ എല്ലാം തിന്നുകളയുന്നു.
That cow is daily coming into my ground, and eating up all the plantain trees.
ആർ ഇത കീറികളഞ്ഞു എന്ന ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല.
I do not know who tore this.
ഇത ഉപെക്ഷിച്ചകളഞ്ഞാൽ മറെറാന്നും കിട്ടുകയില്ല.
If you reject this, you will get nothing else.
അവൻ കുറ്റം ചെയ്തതകൊണ്ട അവന്റെ ഉദ്യൊഗത്തിൽനിന്ന അവനെ തള്ളിക്കളവാൻ നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
It has been determined to cast him out of his employ, because he committed a crime.
3rd. Of കിടക്കുന്നു.
ഞാൻ ചെന്ന നൊക്കിയപ്പൊൾ നിലം വിതച്ച കിടക്കുന്നത കണ്ടു.
When I went and looked, I saw that the field was sown.
വാതിൽ പൂട്ടി കിടക്കുന്നു എന്ന അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
He said that the door was locked up.
4th. Of തരുന്നു, and കൊടുക്കുന്നു.
എന്നൊട കൂടെ രണ്ടു സിപ്പായിമാരെ വിട്ട തരാം എന്ന കാൎയ്യക്കാർ പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
The Tahsildar hath said, he will send two Sepoys with me.
അവൻ അവന്റെ ചുമട പിടിച്ചകൊടുത്തു.
He gave him a lift up with his load.
അവൎക്ക വിളമ്പികൊടുത്തിട്ട അവനും ഭക്ഷിച്ചു.
Having distributed the food to them, he also eat.
5th. Of പൊകുന്നു.
ൟ കയറ പൊട്ടിപൊയി. This rope is broken.
താൻ നന്നായി സൂക്ഷിക്കെണം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വീണപൊകും.
Take great care, or you will fall.

അവൻ തന്റെ മക്കളെക്കാളും തന്റെ കുതിരകളെ അധികം സ്നെഹിക്കുന്നു.
He loves his horses more than his children.
ഇതിലും നന്നായിട്ട ഒന്ന ഇനിക്ക വീട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ട.
I have one in the house better than this.
എല്ലാത്തിനെക്കാളും മൃദുവായുള്ള വസ്തു വെണ്ണയാകുന്നു, അതിനെക്കാളും മൃദുവായുള്ളത സജ്ജനങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങൾ ആകുന്നു അതെന്തകൊണ്ടെന്നാൽ വെണ്ണ തനിക്ക ചൂടവന്നല്ലാതെ ഉരുകുന്നില്ല സജ്ജനങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങൾ മറ്റ ആൎക്ക എങ്കിലും ചൂടവന്നാൽ ഉരുകിപൊകുന്നു.
Butter is softer than all things, but the hearts of good people are softer than that; because butter will not melt unless itself feel the heat, but good mens hearts melt when any other one feels the heat; i. e. distress.
