227. Of Affirmative Defective Verbs.
1st. Examples of the use of വെണം.
നമ്മുടെ അടിയെന്തിരത്തിന്ന ഇത വെണം.
This is necessary for our business.
യജമാനൻ പറയുന്നതൊക്കയും ഞാൻ ചെയ്യെണം.
I must do all that Master commands me.
നീ വെല ചെയ്കയും മിനക്കെടാതെ ഇരിക്കയും വെണം.
You must do your work without being idle.
2nd. Of വെണ്ടി.
അത് വെണ്ടുന്ന കാൎയ്യം ആകുന്നു.
That is a necessary affair.
വെള്ളം വെണ്ടുവൊളം ഉണ്ട. There is plenty of water.
ഞാൻ നിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ പാൎക്കെണ്ടുന്നതാകുന്നു.
I must dwell in your house.
3rd. of ഒക്കും.
നീ അവിടെ പൊയാൽ ആ കാൎയ്യം ഒക്കും.
If you go there, that affair will be settled.
അവൻ പറഞ്ഞത ഒക്കും എങ്കിൽ താൻ അത സാധിപ്പാൻ പ്രയത്നം ചെയ്യാനുള്ളതാകുന്നു.
If what he says is right, you ought to strive to effect it.
4th. Of കഴിവു. When connected with a sentence that implies necessity the governing noun must be in the dative; in other cases the nominative is required; as,
ഇനിക്ക ഉറങ്ങിയെ കഴിവു. I must sleep.
ഇനിക്ക കുളിച്ചെ കഴിവു. I must bathe.
ഞാൻ കൂടെ അവിടെ ചെന്നെ കഴിവു.
I also must, or ought to, go thither.
5th. Of ആവു.
കാൎയ്യക്കാരൻ അഞ്ച രൂപായെ പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം ചെയ്യിക്കാവു.
The Tassildar can only fine to the amount of five Rupees.
അവൻ അവിടെ ചെന്നെ നീ ചെല്ലാവു.
You can, or must, only go after he has been.
ദുഷ്ടന്മാൎക്ക ശിക്ഷ കല്പിച്ചെ മതിയാവു.
It is necessary to award punishment to the wicked.
The particle കൂടു is used like the last verb, and with a similar meaning; thus,
കണ്ണാടി ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലെ ഇനിക്ക എഴുത്ത കണ്ട കൂടു.
I can only see the letters if I have spectacles.
പുസ്തകം ശൊധന ചെയ്തെ സത്യം അറിഞ്ഞ കൂടു.
